Planning your dream wedding can be all-consuming and a lot of time, energy and money goes into making it just right.
Understandably, then, it can feel difficult when it’s all over. No more conversations about wedding dresses, choosing decorations or picking out rings; instead, it’s just back to life as usual. While you’ll no doubt be excited to start this new chapter of your lives, it’s common for couples to feel a little flat after the festivities have concluded. This feeling is termed ‘the post-wedding blues’, and is very normal.
But how can you manage this complex emotion, and ensure you’re starting married life with a sense of happiness? In this post, we share our top tips for managing the post-wedding blues.
Celebrate your marriage in the little ways
Whilst your wedding day is the start of your married life, your marriage is a whole lot longer. You still have so many exciting and wonderful moments to come with your new spouse, and it’s important to remember that.
Hopefully, before the wedding, you’ll have taken some time to talk to your partner about your hopes and dreams for the future. Once the wedding is out of the way, you’ll have more time to start working on those ambitions, and curating a life together that allows you to grow and deepen your love and commitment.
Work out what it is you loved about your wedding
If you’re feeling sad that your wedding is over, can you pinpoint exactly what it is you miss? Is it having a focus and a sense of purpose, spending more time with family and friends, or taking time to spend with your significant other? Once you’ve worked out why you truly enjoyed the leadup to your big day, you can look to replicate this in other areas of your life.
Perhaps this means putting in a monthly date night, or making plans to speak to your friends more regularly. Or, if you found that your wedding brought about a sense of newfound independence from your parents (a common discovery), work on redefining your relationship with your family and moving forward into this new stage of your life.
Find something to look forward to
Just because you’ve said your vows doesn’t mean that you have to settle into a routine that you deem ‘boring’. Getting married isn’t a last hurrah – there are still plenty of milestones and smaller moments that you can celebrate together. Making plans, whether that’s a holiday, home renovation or even just taking a trip to see friends can help keep that excitement alive.
The period of time directly after your nuptials can be hard, and it’s totally normal to feel that way. Share your feelings with your new spouse, and take joy from the small moments as you start your life together.

An Alternative Church Wedding with Unique Outfits
This shoot was inspired wholly by the vastness and beauty of the venue as well as the unitarians inspiring ethos: Ullet Road Unitarian Church. We chose a beautiful day for the shoot, meaning the light flooding into the building and outside of the building was beautiful. We had a selection of dresses to change into for different parts of the church, and we utilised the late in different rooms and at different windows, as well as the doors for the iconic confetti shots.

However, it’s unquestionable that with a tag like that, there’s also going to be an element of pressure you need to manage. 84% of brides report feeling some sort of stress about their big day. And while a lot of this comes hand-in-hand with planning a large event, it’s unquestionable that standing in front of anyone as the “star of the show” is going to get the nerves jangling.
