3 Easy Steps to Start Planning Your Wedding (The Right Way!)

You’re engaged…but now what?!

You may have landed here in a desperate search to learn exactly how to start planning for your wedding day.

I’m not going to lie; wedding planning is a lengthy process and the final result is the outcome of months of tough decision making and stress. BUT — it’s fun too. And you should absolutely love planning your wedding!

The main thing is to do it RIGHT. And with so many tips and tricks out there on how to plan your wedding, it’s understandable you’re feeling a little lost, confused and deflated.

During my time as a Wedding Planner, I’ve created a system that I’m confident truly works. It’s been tried and tested by many Brides and has helped give them the best possible support right from the start.

And I’m going to share that system with you, right now. More specifically, three of my most valuable steps on how to start planning your wedding day.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Let’s get started.

1. Budget

The dreaded -B- word. The harsh reality is that there is always going to be a budget.

(And this is actually the number 1 Bride’s biggest struggles!)

So, don’t brush it under the carpet because you’ll end up wasting everyone’s time.

Instead, sit down with your partner and discuss a realistic figure that’s reachable in time for your wedding.

Although I’m sure you’ve already begun pinning like crazy, keep your budget in mind.

Pro tip: Try to give yourselves at least 9 months solid planning time. It’s amazing how quickly time passes and this will save you massively on stress.

2. Guest List

I bet you’ve already got a mental guest list in your head. Who’s invited? Your best friend? Your work colleagues? The post man?

It’s essential to make a note of who you’d like to attend your wedding. I’d recommend including absolutely EVERYONE.

This makes it a heck of a lot easier because you won’t forget anyone and you can begin to chip away from the list if necessary.

Split the list into two sections, daytime and evening.

Daytime guests are the people that will attend the actual wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast.

Evening guests usually join the party from around 7pm.

Now the fun part! You need to decide who you’re having in your Bridal party. And the Groom needs to decide who’s in his party.

Pro tip: If you’d like to save a few pennies, ask more people to attend the evening reception rather than the daytime. The food and drink costs are a fraction of the price!

3. Venue

When you have your budget confirmed and guest list completed, you’re ready to begin the venue search.

It’s essential you complete the above steps because there’s absolutely no point in looking around venue’s that are over budget. Because that’s not fun for anyone.

How do you narrow down the venue search?

With thousands of venues now hosting weddings, it can all become a little overwhelming.

The best thing to do is think about the following:

Where would you like to get married? We’re talking about the actual location here. Do you see yourself marrying in your home town? Or jetting off to some exotic location?

What type of venue would you like? Do you want a relaxed, boho style wedding in a barn? Or perhaps a glamorous affair in a manor house?

Pro tip: Most venue’s have a minimum and maximum capacity, so it’s important to check this before booking your viewing appointment.
